"Daily pleasure...
it's just one side effect of well
chosen art."
And to help things along, we've made the first choice the easiest:
a free course in choosing art well.

Here's your pocket art expert...
to show you step by step how to
• find styles and artists you really like
• determine what's good and why
• avoid unfair pricing and other pitfalls
and do it all with the confidence of someone who knows the game.
To many, art buying can be daunting, almost like sitting exams where you put your
knowledge out there and then live with the consequences.
With the answers safely in your pocket, now how do you feel?
I'm guessing a little more comfortable:
perhaps even enjoying a quiet 'Mona Lisa smile' that comes from knowing that now
you are going to get it right.

My suggestion is not to think of 'The Insider's Guide' as a book, because it was
designed more as a tool. In fact if you're using it properly, you'll find yourself
scribbling and making notes in it as you work your way through, to help you make
the right art buying choices farther down the track.
"Who am I and what do I know?"
My name is Cameron Singleton and I've spent a lifetime in the art world.
I'm a practicing artist whose work has appeared multiple times on the cover of TIME
magazine, amongst other places. I have lectured in art at various universities and
tertiary institutions and worked with a public art consultancy advising government
and corporations on civic art commissions.
Having grown up in a household with artist parents (my mother was Director of a
regional gallery and a free lance curator for large private collections; my father
is an internationally respected potter in the Japanese tradition and an art buyer
for various galleries)
"I have been lucky to grow up understanding the art world
from both sides of the fence: business and practice."
So, if you're interested, now I can share some of that with you.
Some of what you will find inside...
•Why people buy art.
And yes, there is a right answer.
(What would art be without a little controversy?)
•How to identify
the art that's personally right for you
•Where are the best
places to source it
•How to track prices
and set budgets
Including how anyone, even on a tight budget, can establish
a very pleasing collection
•How to establish
if the art you're looking at is significant
•Art world scams
and how to avoid them
•An in depth look
at provenance and its impact on price
Not sure what provenance is? It can maken a huge difference to the value of a work
and you owe yourself a copy if only to help safely navigate through one of the more
popular areas for art scammers.
•How to hang, protect
and display your art
But what's that got to do with buying, you ask?
Most people buy art because of personal interests (history, animals, plants and
so on) or they want to create a certain effect (taste, harmony, wealth and sophistication...)
Knowing what effect you're after, and we give you a few ideas on how to achieve
it, including the impact of lighting and display methods, puts you in a great position
to work back towards choosing the right art for the desired result.
Do you already have a few nice pieces? Then you can also use this section to 'renovate'
your collection and give it a fresh lease on life.
Choose well today... enjoy forever.
