Our reasons
ArtSales.com.au is an initiative designed to overcome some of the more common problems
encountered in the offline art world, and to make art a more accessible, affordable
and enjoyable experience for everyone. As I see it, the main problems are:
•Not enough available gallery space for the number
of artists wanting to show
their work
•The highly competitive and selective basis on
which commercial space is allocated
•Economic factors: high commissions can make
it tough for both the artist and the
buyer, (standard commercial arrangements are often half of the sale price)
•Some less wealthy people often feel unwelcome
or uncomfortable in private
commercial art spaces (occasionally this also includes artists...)
• And some people are afraid of just saying the
wrong thing or of looking ignorant.
Art should be for everyone and so our aim is to create a user friendly space where
artists and buyers of all kinds can show and browse, sell and buy works, in a way
that suits everyone.

About Cameron

"Who am I and what the heck do I know?"
My name is Cameron Singleton and I've spent a lifetime in the art world. I'm a practicing
artist whose work has appeared multiple times on the cover of TIME magazine, amongst
other places. I have lectured in art at various universities and vocational tertiary
institutions and worked with a public art consultancy advising government and corporations
on civic art commissions.
I grew up in a household with artist parents, my mother having been Director of
a Regional Gallery and a free-lance curator for large private collections. My father
is an internationally respected potter in the Japanese tradition and an art buyer
for various galleries. I have fond memories of accompanying and advising him on
some of these purchases. All of which is a long-winded way of saying that
"I was lucky to grow up understanding the art world from both sides of the fence,
business and practice."
I’m also a designer, web developer, internet marketer and part time geek.
