Copyright is valuable
Artwork consists of two valuable properties that may be sold separately, and if
you are unfamiliar with the difference between the ownership of physical property
and the ownership of intellectual property (IP), I would encourage you to read the
first few sections from the previous topic on 'Copyright and other rights'.
Artists should be aware that copyright is valuable and should be viewed in the same
way as other property rights, and should not to be underestimated or given away.
Purchase of physical artwork is not an automatic grant of copyright, and those seeking
to profit commercially from the reproduction of a work must have either:
•Ownership of copyright in the work
OR
•Ownership of a license to enjoy copyright
in the work
If a purchaser is interested in using an image on this site for economic profit,
please select the grant of rights type that best suits those purposes from the descriptions
below.
The specific agreements are also included for your information.

Rights managed
Rights managed images are licensed for use on a one off basis. The fee for using
the image is calculated from several factors including size, placement, duration
of use and geographic distribution. When requesting a rights managed image, you
will be asked to submit information that will specify the usage rights to be granted.
You will need to negotiate with the artist / copyright owner to determine an exact
price.
Exclusive rights may also be available.
All rights managed images will be guided by ArtSales.com.au
Editorial, Rights Managed and Rights Ready Image License Agreement.

Rights ready
Rights ready images are licensed for a particular use by a particular client both
of which are specified at the time of licensing and may be used multiple times for
that stated purpose. When requesting a rights-ready image, you will be asked to
submit information that specifies how you intend to use the product, and the end
client for whom it will be used. You will need to negotiate with the artist / copyright
owner to determine an exact price.
Licenses for rights-ready products are always non-exclusive.
All rights ready images will be guided by ArtSales.com.au
Editorial, Rights Managed and Rights Ready Image License Agreement.

Royalty free
Royalty free images may be used by the licensee multiple times for multiple projects
without incurring additional fees. Royalty free pricing will need to be negotiated
with the artist / copyright owner to determine an exact price and the number of
people entitled to use it (usually no more than 10). You don't pay any additional
royalties on future usage.
Royalty free licenses are always non-exclusive.
All licenses of royalty free images will be guided by ArtSales.com.au

'Mock-Up' Use
Artists / copyright owners may permit certain images to be used free of charge or
for a minimal fee for a limited duration, if they are used only for personal, non-commercial
use and solely for test or sample purposes. With this license images may be used
to mock-up a project for proofing presentations to end clients.
Mock-up images are not licensed for use in final projects, whether for internal
or external use and are never exclusive.
All licenses for editorial use will be guided by ArtSales.com.au
