Buy art your how to guideYour free e-book: The insider's guide to buying art

"If there was an exam in buying art,
this would be your cheat sheet!"

All the answers right at your finger tips...

Hands up who likes exams?

Mmmmm... no surprises.
Not one hand - not even from the people who are good at them.

Why do we hate exams
so much?

Because you have to put your knowledge out where it can be seen and then live with the consequences...

Just like buying art, really.

Well, what if you had all the answers in your back pocket?

( No, no, don't do this in exams,
but buying art is a slightly different story...)

So now how do you feel?

I'm guessing a bit more comfortable:
happy, confident... perhaps even a little smug.
All the feelings that come from knowing you've got the answers,
knowing that when it comes to that piece of art,
you are going to get it right.

Go on. Be a devil - slip a free expert into your back pocket.

My suggestion is not to think of The Insider's Guide as a book,
because it was designed more as a tool.
(In fact, you're supposed to scribble in it and make notes
as you work your way through, to help you in
making the right art buying choices farther down the track.)

"Really... that's the piece you want?
Fair enough, now to avoid all the traps."

Step-by-step from 'WHY' to 'WHERE'

Why people buy art.

(and yes, there is a right answer. Hey, what's art without a bit of controversy?)

How to identify the art that's personally right for you.

Where are the best places to source it.

How to track prices and set budgets.

(including how anyone, even on a tight budget, can establish a very pleasing collection)

How to establish if the art you're looking at is significant.

Art world scams.

An in depth look at provenance and its impact on price.

(Don't know what provenance is? Then you owe yourself a copy if only to avoid being taken by this one.)

How to hang, protect and display your art.

But what's that got to do with buying, you ask?

Most people buy art because they want to create a certain effect. Knowing what effect you're after, (and we give you a few ideas on how to achieve it, including the impact of lighting and display methods) puts you in a great position to work back towards choosing the right art.

Do you already have a few nice pieces? You can also use this section to 'renovate' your collection and give it a fresh lease of life.

"Who am I and what the heck do I know?"

My name is Cameron Singleton and I've spent a lifetime in the art world. I'm a practicing artist whose work has appeared multiple times on the cover of TIME magazine, amongst other places.

I grew up in a household with artist parents, my mother having been Director of a regional gallery and a free lance curator for large private collections. My father is an internationally respected potter in the Japanese tradition and an art buyer for various galleries, which is a long-winded way of saying that

"I was lucky to grow up understanding the art world
from both sides of the fence,
business and practice."

So if you're interested, now I can share a bit of all that with you.

'The Guide' doesn't come with a set of steak knives

and you have to construct it yourself

(although it does come with instructions if you're the DIY type,
or just leave it flat if you can't be bothered)

but...

It's free

It's structured like a course

to get you through the whole buying process without a scratch

It's designed as a tool

so you can plug in your own personal requirements

And it's packed with information

which gets straight to the point.

It's probably the closest thing
to having your own personal expert
right in your back pocket...

our gift to you:
useful, impartial and complete.

I hope you enjoy it.
